The time is just about right to dust off your kayak, canoe, tube or floaties and get in the waters of Beaver Creek! Beaver Creek, which connects the Knox County communities of Halls, Karns and Powell, is becoming more and more of an amenity for all. With the concerted efforts of many, Beaver Creek is being better cared and maintained for public use.

To showcase the creek and its designation as a 'Water Trail', a grand opening flotilla is planned for Saturday, August 4th. This free and open-to-the-public event will commence around 10:00 am with boat put-in just south of the baseball field at Powell High School in historic Powell Station. The float will run a 2.2± Stream Mile course and end near the new Weigel's store at 7520 Clinton Highway.

In the run up to the event jams and debris will be cleared through public and private efforts by groups such as the Knox County Stormwater Management, Knox County Jail – Inmate Industries, Beaver Creek Kayak Club and more. Long range plans are for debris maintenance along the entirety of Beaver Creek and for installation of multiple put-in/put-outs. Current sites being considered in the Powell area include locations such as: Powell High School (at the batting cages); Powell Station Park, the Community Center and Collier Park, among others.

This exciting once-in-a-lifetime Grand Opening Flotilla will be led by long time Powell resident, Mr. Bill Weigel and will be televised by WATE 6 as part of its Million Dollar Community Grant Program.
