Winding through Morningside Park, the greenway passes through a newly renovated disc golf course, and curves around sporting fields and playground area. A mixture of hardwoods and pine trees pepper the rolling terrain, often providing a canopy for the trail. For those that desire a more vigorous workout, fitness stations are strategically spaced along the route. Coming from Knoxville, the James White Greenway, connects with the Morningside Greenway, terminating on the northwestern edlge of the park, at Alex Haley Heritage Square. The greenway currently ends at the South Knoxville Bridge (aka James White Parkway), but the City has plans to continue the route to Hillwood Drive, which will then travel over to Ijams Nature Center and the Will Skelton Greenway.
