Road Cycling

Road cycling around Knoxville offers an almost endless ribbon of scenic country roads, relatively traffic-free, that meander through canopied woods and skirt alongside open farmland. Although Knoxville’s hilly terrain offers a bit of a challenge for new riders, hang in there and you’ll be surprised how quickly your endurance increases. If you aren’t familiar with the bicycle friendly roads in our area, join one of the local bicycle club or shop rides and explore the area with other cyclists. A good resource guide to routes in our area is Bicycling Routes Around Knoxville which features 40 routes with detailed cue sheets and maps.

The City of Knoxville, Legacy Parks, AMBC and others have been working hard to build new bike lanes, greenways, trails, and other bike facilities. The 2017 Knoxville Bicycle Map will help Knoxville residents and tourists find and use these bike facilities, ride safely, and connect to Knoxville's thriving bike culture. The map shows bike lanes, signed bike routes, greenways, and roads that are considered comfortable to ride. The "comfortable" designation is based on low-to-medium traffic speeds & volumes, along with other criteria.

Our local shops and clubs lead many rides around our area. These rides are posted on our weekly events calendar.
